About Blue Kite

Blue Kite Boutique is owned and operated by Marla Stanton.

Marla has been crafting and making things for as long as she can remember.  It started with fabric scraps and paint from her mom and wood blocks from her dad.  Marla comes from a line of craftsmen, sewers, and do-it-yourselfers.

Marla started her blog Marla, Plain & Small in 2010.  Although she grew up with toy sewing machines, she began really sewing after getting a quality sewing machine for Christmas 2010.  Marla also knits, paints, makes jewelry, and dabbles in numerous crafts.  Her professional background and college degrees are in filmmaking and writing.

In spring 2012, Marla left her full-time dream job of six years to pursue a new dream-- Blue Kite Boutique.  She had been making items for friends and local shops and decided to open a store for her items and for other local artists looking for a place to sell their items.  Blue Kite Boutique opened in August 2012 in Springhill, Arkansas.  Blue Kite moved to Downtown Conway in September 2013.

The Blue Kite storefront closes the end of August 2014.  Blue Kite will move to online sales in 2015.  Marla and her husband Colin are expecting their first child, and this will allow them to spend time as a family and to adjust to a new member of the family!
